Friday 25th October 10am – 5pm
Saturday 26th October 10am – 5pm
Sunday 27th October 10am – 4pm

York Racecourse Knavesmire Stand, North Yorkshire.

art& show 2019 is a fantastic opportunity for collectors, buyers, art lovers and anyone else who is interested in meeting artists and buying unique art works to come along to this friendly, accessible and affordable show.

Set over 3-days the art& show has over 120 artists work for sale & commission from a wide price range of £10-£10,000+.

Its a chance to actually meet the artists, talk to them about their work and inspirations and buy and commission direct.

Artists taking part in the show pay for their own space and there is 0% commission on their sales – so whenever you buy a piece of work you support an independent artist to keep on making, painting, drawing, sculpting…. their amazing creations.

We select artists and designer-makers showing a wide range of high quality and innovative work from glass and ceramics to painting and drawing, jewellery and textiles, sculpture and metalwork and much much more.

You can also meet our RAW Talent Artists – 12 emerging artists who’ve won a place on our 6 month mentoring and supporting scheme. RAW Talent artists get a subsidized place at the show plus one to one mentoring and group workshops to prepare them for their first retail show.  In turn any sales they make have a commission back towards the scheme. So by buying from them you support the emergence of fresh new talent and get the chance to get work from up and coming makers and artists.

As well as having artists selling their own art works direct we have interactive areas, installations, workshops, demonstrations, cafe areas and a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Our next event is at York Racecourse Events Centre – a light, airy and warm venue with loads of free onsite parking.

We hope that you will join our mailing list below and stay up to date with all the information about the artists and plans for the show. In the meantime find out about some of the artists who took part in our 2016 & 2017 shows by watching the short films below. Enjoy!

Best wishes, Emily & Victoria.

What's On

In 2018 at the art&York show we hosted a series of FREE workshops, interactive areas, and talks throughout the show. We’ll be doing something similar in 2019.  Find out more about what went on at the show is 2018:

Friday, Saturday & Sunday

All workshops were free with an entrance ticket and were available on a first come first serve basis. All workshops ran for approximately 50mins.

11am –  Amber Gosden – Polyboard Printing : create your own wallpaper design from polyboard prints

1pm –  Mim Robson – Petal Art : create ephemeral images using real flowers, petals, berries and leaves

3pm –  The Creative Studio York – Pinch Pots: get creative with clay in this hands-on workshop

Jessica Grady – Jessica creates textile art pieces, with a distinct style, utilising unconventional materials as modern embellishments – such as dyed cotton buds, spray painted metal washers and hand cut sequins out of repurposed plastic packaging.  Jessica created an interactive installation throughout the show – many people joined in – did you?

Cardboard Community – artists Amy Stubbs and Tristram Thirkell created a cardboard community with visitors to the show – an ongoing interactive area for all ages.

Felicific Calculus – Gemma Wood of Being Nowhere, created an interactive installation that involved participants following a series of questions in the form of a flow chart that identifies the true source of happiness.

The Battle of Fulford Tapestry: The large-scale tapestry of the Battle of Fulford is a York based community project that has been displayed in the House of Lords and more recently in France, close to the Bayeux Tapestry.

Interactive Drawing Wall: Do you ever just want to draw on the wall? Well loads of people did at art&York 2018 – joining in with our drawing wall.

Martin Smith: ‘Why Machines’

Friday – 4pm. Martin Smith led an interactive talk about his practice including Public Art, Laikingland and other collaborations.

Jim Bond: ‘Invention and illusion’

Saturday – 4pm. Kinetic sculptor Jim Bond charted his journey from creating automatic candle snuffing devices to his current work collaborating with scientists, building light installations and creating three dimensional optical portraits.

Visitors to our 2018 were invited to watch the progress of a piece of work being created in a day in Zone One.

Friday: Alun Kirkby created a beautiful mural from origami butterflies. Based on the Taoist story of whether one is a man dreaming of being a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming of being a man. The mural was then showcased on the glass doors in Zone One. Gorgeous!

Saturday: Back by popular demand, tailoress Pam Robinson created a bespoke dress in a day. Visitors could watch the whole thing come together and Sunday’s visitors could see co-organiser Victoria Robinson wearing the dress the next day at the show.

Sunday: Visitors watched wirework artist Helaina Sharpley twist and bend wire to create an intricate floral piece over the course of the day. Amazing!

We have similar things going on at all our shows.  So alongside 120 artists showcasing and selling their own works direct, we have these amazing things for you to see, do, hear and get involved in.  Join our mailing list to stay up to date with everything that is going on and save these dates in your diary:

Friday 25th, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October 2019.
